  • Wrap your thread down to the bend of the hook.
  • Stack and tie in a bunch of Elk Hair using the pinch method. (be careful not to over tighten your first few wraps, if you over tighten the hair will flare out).
  • Tie in a piece of Peacock Herl.
  • Bring you thread forward a quarter of the shank.

  • Wrap the peacock up to your tread and tie off.
  • Wrap the thread close with close wraps back and forth along the mid section until you build up to were you want it.
  • Tie in another bunch of Elk Hair for the wings (again be careful not to over tighten the first few wraps).
  • Tie in a piece of Peacock herl with the section you are going to wrap pointed back.

Arizona Fly Tying

  • At this point I come a few wraps forward and tie in my Z-Lon post. (sorry I missed the picture).
  • Tie in hackle at the base of the post (but don’t wrap yet).
  • Tie in legs along both sides.
  • Now wrap the herl up to and just past the post and tie off.
  • Wrap the hackle around the post, and tie off.
  • While pinching the hackle out of the way continue the herl up to and just shy of the eye of the hook.
  • Whip fishes and apply head cement.
